How To Keep Your Dog From Getting On The Sofa

how to keep your dog from getting on the sofa

Once I had a dog who refused to climb on the couch anymore. Of course, I taught him not to sit on the couch at home, but as soon as I fell asleep or left home, I heard him return to his favorite spot on the couch and lay down dog fur everywhere, clean upholstery. We've been in that fight almost all his life and I've always been frustrated. However, since then I've learned many little tips and techniques for training a dog to stop for jumping, so you can keep your skin friend off the couch. This training starts when your dog is young.

puppy training

Dogs understand the concept of the territory and respect the restrictions imposed on the territory. If you tell your dog not to go to a room or build your own door, your dog will usually respect what you tell him. In most cases, your dog will not meet these limits if he stops being the alpha leader or if he does not meet the limits.

Once you bring your new puppy home, you need to set clear boundaries on where to go home and when to go home. If your puppy is still very young, you have to be extremely consistent. If your puppy is tall, you can create exceptions if you so wish, and your dog can understand that this is an exception to the rule. But when it comes to a puppy, he has to be clear and uphold the limits.

You also need to set rules for your home and make sure everyone sticks to it. Children are often guilty of breaking the rules and having a dog do all sorts of things they should not do. Remember that you want to teach the dog that the sofa is yours and that it should never be on top.

When you are not at home

Of course, things do not always go as planned. It seems like the charm of a soft, comfortable place on the couch where you sit all the time is too big for a dog, and when you're away from home, your dog feels like the owner of the house. Which dog does not want to jump on the couch?

It does not help you to yell at your dog or try to catch him while he's naughty. Your dog already knows when he'll probably catch it and wait until you're gone. You need to find a way to keep your dog from jumping on the couch and telling him that this is not a nice place.

You must avoid deterrents and odors. They can make the sofa more uncomfortable, but usually do not work for dogs that sleep fast. They only prevent the dog from licking the couch.

A good way to prevent your dog from jumping on the couch when you are away from home is to train in cages. You can keep your dog in a confined space when you are away or asleep and your dog has his own sleeping place.

You can also try to put things on the couch. For example, try balloons, books, plastic mats, cardboard boxes or newspapers and plastic hangers. You can use everything as long as it is not as comfortable as the sofa cushions for your dog. This can teach your dog that the couch is not as good as he thinks.

On the other hand, you have to deal with everything on the couch that your dog can distribute in your living room. Cash training as an alternative resting place is always a good idea. Even with pleading eyes, do not let your dog lie on the couch or other furniture. and watch your dog like a hawk so he will not come to the couch if you do not look at him.

You may not be able to prevent your dog from sitting on the couch if you leave it alone at home, unless you use a cage. On the other hand, some dogs will learn to respect the fact that the furniture is out of bounds. You can also teach him that he has his own bed to sleep on. In the end, that's all you can do to make him move away from the couch and in his place.
