Who let the dogs out so I'm in a different spot today Kinsley's over there playing in that mess of toys and tuckies up on the cap so anyways I just wanted to make a really quick articel on some tips for when you have pets especially puppies because I am actually puppy sitting right now and I have been thinking about how it was when Tucker was a puppy and when Oscar was a puppy Oscar was is my dog that passed away um but I've had a lot of dogs in and out of my house I love dogs so all my friends always ask me to puppy sit so we always have dogs in the house so that being said we obviously have some messes and things like that and you know that I like to keep my house clean so I thought that I would just share with you my tips and tricks on how I manage having puppies and dogs in the house ok so when it comes to potty training I have a big do not and then a few tips for things that you can do so my do not do not do when puppy training or potty training your puppy is to use these puppy pads I know that they market these and they push these and they say that dogs are pad trained or whatever but I think I think that they are a waste of money and a waste of time because essentially all you're doing if you are successful and getting your dog to pee or poop on the pad you're training them that it's ok to pee and poop in the house and then you're gonna turn around and try and get them to go outside and it's just going to confuse them.
So I say do not waste your money on these puppy pads just skip that altogether so my tips for potty training and this is a really good tip I stumbled across it when Tucker was a baby and I did it and it worked so well and I've told so many people since then the problem with the tip is that you really have to be committed a lot of hard work but it works and I'd say it works in about a week I had Tucker here trained because before I started this way he was peeing and pooping everywhere and it was a nightmare and I just felt like I couldn't trust him in any of the rooms I always kind of had my eye on him but this is what I did so what you're going to do is you're gonna need some treats for your dog obviously and then you're going to have to pick one or two words that you want to use and think about they need to be simple words and they need to be something that you plan to use throughout the rest of your dog's life so for us it's outside and potty so what you're going to do is say okay let's go outside outside and you're just gonna keep repeating yourself outside outside saying it over and over take the dog outside and you can use the word out there potty or whatever you choose once they do go potty you'll obviously want to give them a lot of praise and you can give them a treat and then you still want to continue to say potty good boy good girl potty good boy good girl but I mean they're going to eventually catch on to those words are positive things and those words mean that.
Puppy Potty Training Spray
That being said if your dog your puppy does go potty inside the house which they will there's no getting around that first I want to say please do not ever hit your puppy or your dog do not ever spank them or stick their nose into the mess that does not teach them anything it just really confuses them it's just not the way to go about it so I don't ever do that I know that that's like an old way of doing it I know that I've seen a lot of people do it but it's it doesn't work it just confuses the dog so please don't make spank them or stick their nose into their pee or their poop and yell at them the best way to do it if you can catch them in the act pick them up as quick as possible and start saying outside outside outside outside take them outside if they finish outside obviously praise them if they don't come back in take them over to the mess and firmly say no bad a few times you know shame them and then clean up the mess and move on because it is gonna happen.
They're just babies they're just they're just animals and they're not doing it on purpose to make you mad they just don't understand yet and it's your job to teach them and it's your responsibility to teach them what you want from them and what you expect from them so the best way to do it is to be clear about what are the best tips potty training puppy what you want so the actual potty training part that I say is hard is this so you're going to set your timer whether it be on your phone or your microwave and you're going to start out at five minutes so every five minutes you're gonna take the puppy outside outside let's go outside let's go potty and you're going to go outside and what's you're gonna stay out there for however long until they potty.
If you're out there for several minutes and they're not potty and that's okay you can obviously come back in and try again but once they go potty praise them treat them come back and set the timer for five minutes again you're gonna do this for the entire day aside from if they're obviously sleeping or they're in their kennel or something like that but while they're awake every five minutes and it is exhausting and it sounds crazy but it works and then the next day you're gonna do every ten minutes so the same thing every ten minutes outside outside potty and then the next day fifteen minutes and then the next day twenty minutes and then the next day thirty minutes and so on and so forth and you may see at thirty minutes they've already gotten they've already figured it out or you may have to continue and keep going up in five ten minute increments this works and it is hard work and that's why no one does it because it is really you have to dedicate yourself to this but it does work and it works so fast I was shocked.
Puppy Toilet Training Hacks
Okay so for that part that's pretty much all of it it's a really simple concept it's just hard work and it takes a lot of commitment like I said so do that and then for in the meantime when they do potty in the house because like I said they will potty I have a couple of solutions for you as well as some cleaning products and tips and tricks that I use to clean up after them so if you have a male puppy or a male dog they actually sell these little wraps that you can get this one at Petsmart and this one I actually gone on Etsy and they sell different material and sizes and it's just a piece of fleece material with Velcro and a little bit of padding in here and you just wrap that up around them and velcro it to them and their little weenie will be in here and that way if they do pee that this will absorb it and you can just toss this into the wash this is the same idea this one has like an absorbent pad already built in what I like to do to save myself on some time and some laundry is I will actually put you can get like poise pads if you want but you probably already have your maxi pads laying around the house somewhere so I will just put like a maxi pad in there and then when he pees I can just take the pad out and replace it with a new one and then I don't have to launder this as far as it goes for girls I do believe that they sell something similar to this it doesn't obviously wrap around their belly I think it's more of like almost like a diaper concept where it go their back legs go into it but it's the same idea that way.
If they do potty in the house that this catches it and it doesn't get in your carpet so if they pee on your carpet what I like to do is take I take a few paper towels two or three and I will make it into a square and then you're gonna press it down on the spot where they peed and that p is gonna soak up into the paper towel and then get get another wad of paper towels and do the same thing until nothing else comes out of the carpet and then and then I spray this 4:09 carpet cleaner this stuff is really good and it says for pet stains tracked in dirt motor oil food we use coffee tea red wine and more but this is what I use on pretty much any problem we might have in the carpet as well as doggie accidents so if they pee soaked it up with the paper towel spray it with this let that thick and then you can go in and wipe it up really well and then what I do and it's kind of gross but you really want to make sure that you've gotten your in out of the carpet and that you've gotten it all up so what I'll do after I do those steps is get down and smell that area if it smells clean then I'm good to go but sometimes there might be a little bit of urine smell left over and that either means you didn't get it all up or you need to go in with more reinforcement so in that case take some baking soda and sprinkle it over the area and allow that to sit for at least 30 minutes but if you can about an hour and that will absorb some of the odor and then you can go in and vacuum that up and if that still hasn't worked which by this point it really should have worked but if that doesn't work they do sell pet urine sprays at the store that has some special enzymes in them or something that breaks down the odor in the pee.

I don't have to use them I've never had to use them because what I've just told you it's always worked really well for me but in a serious case where maybe you can't get the scent out they definitely sell products marketed just for pet urine now for poopy accidents those are actually a little bit easier to clean up just because it doesn't soak down into the carpet I mean unless it's like diarrhea which does happen and that really sucks but usually with poop it's just on top so what I'll do is go get some toilet paper and I pick up throw it in the toilet and flush it and then I'll go to the area and spray it down with this let it soak clean it up really good and then you can take something like a Clorox disinfecting wipe or you could spray some Lysol on there and disinfect the area and that's what I do for puppy accidents if it was a like a diarrhea accident I would take the same thing I would get the toilet paper and get up as much as I can and then for what's left in the carpet I would take a wet hot rag and get out what I could and then continue on with the carpet cleaner and then the Clorox wipes or the rag or whatever.
I needed to get the rest of it out and then go ahead and spray it down with some Lysol to go ahead and disinfect that area hey guys so I actually forgot a really really important tip and I knew when I was filming that had forgotten something but for the life of me I could not remember what it was and I was sitting there editing the video and it came to me so I just wanted to come back quick and tell you this is another tip Kinsley's in there with the TV super loud so I'm in the hallway but the other tip that I have and this is very important is meal time and water you don't want to keep their food and water out for them to have access to all day because any dog especially puppies they are going to use the potty directly after eating it's going to be within the 30 minutes after they eat but gen1 generally I have found that they will go potty within the first five minutes of eating when you have meal time make sure that it is a time that as soon as they are done eating you are able to take them outside. because they will go potty
How to Toilet Train a Puppy?
If you're gonna feed them twice a day you just want to make sure that when you put their food and water down right after they're done eating and drinking that you put them outside and then you put up the water and the food and obviously you can offer water throughout the day especially puppies they seem to be very thirsty I don't know what it is but little puppies like to drink a lot so you can obviously offer them water several times a day but after you offer them the water make sure that you're taking them outside right away and then picking the water up so that they don't have access to it all day because I know with Tucker he would go and he would drink and then he would go right directly after that and pee and he was always thirsty and he was always asking for water in fact he was so smart he used to go up to the refrigerator and whine and look at see dispenser where the water comes out because he knew that's where we got water from but he was always so thirsty so I tried to give him water as much as possible but after I gave him the water I would take him right outside so he could pee so that was another really important tip that I wanted to share with you guys.
I know a lot of times for puppies we like to set their food and water out and just let them go to it when they need but that's actually a really big mistake because they it does not help in the potty training process so yeah guys that's pretty much all I can think of to tell you as far as it as it goes for cleaning up after your pets especially puppies Tucker's old enough now that he definitely does not potty in the house he lets me know that he wants to go outside by sitting at the back door and sometimes people whine if he is really wanting to go otherwise he'll just sit there and I see him sitting there and I know he wants to go out Oscar was the same way he would just go sit by the back door sometimes I've seen dogs we'll go and kind of paw at the door when they want to go out I know that's what my mom's dogs actually do when they want to go out they go to the door and kind of paw at it to let her know but yeah Tucker here is potty-trained and it is so nice once they get potty-trained and I use all of these tips and tricks for potty training your puppy/dog that I shared with you today with him and we completely trust him in the house he has free roam of the house he is not kindled when we leave or anything like that he's a good boy and yeah so I hope that these tips helped you guys if you have any more questions on something maybe I didn't touch on definitely ask me in the comments below and I will be happy to try and help you anyways.
